Szymon Marciniak’s desire is to share musical experiences with the audience at highest level through giving every piece of music an authenticity and freshness. Through his original approach to his instrument and lively interpretations of classical bass-repertoire as well as transcriptions, he constantly receives acclaim and enthusiastic reactions from listeners and critics alike. Currently appointed principal double-bassist in the Residentie Orkest (The Hague Philharmonic), Szymon is pursuing parallel careers as both soloist and chamber musician. His passion for the Double-Bass solo repertoire has led him to work with different pianists as a duo artist. His wide range of musical interests has enabled him to perform in a variety of combinations including trios, quartets, quintets, octets and chamber orchestra. Szymon’s repertoire ranges from Baroque to Contemporary music.
He has performed with such distinguished artists and ensembles as Gustav Rivinius, Philip Setzer (Emerson String Quartet), Dmitri Ashkenazy, James Campbell, Philippe Graffin, Mirijam Contzen, Gil Sharon, Vera Beths, Paolo Giacometti, Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer, Grigorij Zhyslin, The Faure Quartett, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Ensemble Modern. As a chamber musician Szymon is a frequent guest artist performing at many festivals throughout Europe. He is member of the New European Ensemble, specialized in contemporary and 20th century music. He also forms a duo with Dutch pianist Yoram Ish-Hurwitz..
The 2011/12 season starts for Szymon with some exciting projects.
On october 9th he's going to premiere some new works for double-bass and piano in a recital together with pianist Jeroen Riemsdijk at the Bethanienklooster of Amsterdam. The first half of the program is a bit more mainstream and includes among others Schubert's popular and much-transcribed "Sonate Arpeggione", which by now has become essential part of the double-bass solo repertoire. Duo Marciniak/Riemsdijk will perform a similar program on october 8th at the Royal Conservatory The Hague, as a part of Open Day of the Conservatory- Szymon will also give a short masterclass and perform "Divertimento Concertante" by Nino Rota with the Atheneum Kamerorkest conducted by Arjan Tien on october 8th at The Hague Conservaory as well as on october 9th in Arnhem.
Later, in december, Szymon will be heading to Warsaw/Poland to finish his debut CD recording with works for bass and piano by Adolf Mišek collaborating with the polish pianist Joanna Ławrynowicz. The first part has been recorded last august.
Last but not least, Szymon officially starts the duo collaboration with pianist Yoram Ish-Hurwitz with 5 recitals throughout this season with an exciting program presenting an unheard versatility of the double-bass. Visit the Duo link for more information.
